I am a long-time Tennessean and have chosen to raise my family in friendly Smyrna, TN. It is my pleasure to help home sellers, buyers, and investors in Rutherford, Davidson, and Williamson counties and surrounding areas reach their real estate goals. The backstory: I grew up in Oklahoma, moved to New York at 19, and later spent some time in Colorado before finally settling down in Tennessee. I love to travel, with a special interest in Russia. This eventually led me to an interest in teaching ESL (English as a Second Language). I spent about 20 years as an educator: teaching ESL and training ESL and foreign language teachers. With the assistance of many capable colleagues, I helped develop the internationally-recognized TESL Certificate course at the Tennessee Foreign Language Institute (now the Tennessee Language Center at the University of Tennessee). Ultimately, I became the Director of the Curriculum and Training at TFLI and lead trainer for the TESL Certificate course.
Along the way, I met and married the love of my life, Debbie – a beautiful RN I met through mutual friends in Louisville, KY. We bought our first house, which we fixed up and sold as soon as we could claim the personal residence exclusion. That was the beginning of several similar home flips. We did the vast majority of the work ourselves in our spare time. At one point, my REALTOR®, Chris, told me that I had missed my calling, and several times he encouraged me to get my real estate license. I thought about it briefly just to have the quick MLS access, but didn’t see a pressing need. That changed, though, when we found out that Debbie was pregnant with our first child. I realized that in order to be the best dad and husband I could be, I needed to radically adjust my schedule – no more late nights teaching – I wanted to be home every evening for dinners and bedtime stories. I spoke with Chris and several other agents I knew to get their advice. After much prayerful consideration, I gave the Institute 6 months’ notice, trained my replacements, and began my full-time real estate career. That was over a decade and 4 kids ago!
